Leave is the authorized absence of a fellow from duty for a specific period as provided. Annual Leave shall be granted to a fellow for 15 calendar days. A fellow shall qualify for Annual Leave not less than three months after resumption in the organization. 


Absence without leave 
Any fellow who absents himself/herself from duty or travels out of duty post without leave renders himself/herself liable to be dismissed from the programme, and the onus shall rest on him/her to show that the circumstances do not justify the imposition of the full penalty. 

Absence From Duty On Account Of Illness Medical Certificate 

If a fellow is ill and unable to report for duty, he/she shall notify his/her Host organization in writing or by any other means of communication. Any prolonged absence from duty on grounds of illness should be supported with any of the following documents: 
  • Medical Certificate of Treatment duly authorized by the Healthcare Provider 

Maternity leave 
  • A female fellow who is pregnant is entitled to 12 weeks of maternity leave at a stretch beginning not less than 4 weeks from the expected date of delivery with full pay. A medical certificate showing the expected date of delivery must be presented not less than one month before that date.  

Time off for nursing mothers 
Any female fellow who is nursing a child shall be granted two hours off-duty every day. This facility shall be granted up to a maximum period of three months from the date she resumes duty from maternity leave. 

Leave on compassionate grounds
  • A fellow may be allowed special leave from duty on full pay on compassionate grounds for a period of up to two weeks for burial of spouse/child/parents/parents of spouse.
